Wolf Haven International

Wolf Haven International is a nationally recognized wolf sanctuary that has rescued and provided a lifetime home for over 300 displaced, captive-born animals since 1982. Our mission is “to conserve and protect wolves and their habitat.” We fulfill our mission by offering educational programs about wolves and other wildlife, promoting wolf restoration in historical ranges and working to protect our remaining wild wolves and their habitat. Wolf Haven is accredited by both the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and the American Sanctuary Association.

Many of the relocated wolves were privately owned; others came from zoos, roadside attractions or other unfortunate situations. Our wolves are given exceptional care, quality food, a variety of enrichment items and progressive medical treatment, all of which would not be possible without your support. Wolf Haven also participates in two separate Species Survival Plan programs for critically endangered wolves: the Mexican gray wolf and the red wolf.

A Species Survival Plan (SSP) is a cooperative effort between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), as well as non-AZA participants (like Wolf Haven). An SSP program is designed to oversee the population management of an endangered species in captivity and to enhance their conservation in the wild. The program was developed in 1981 to help ensure the survival of selected species, most of which are threatened or in danger of extinction in the wild.

Wolf Haven began participating in the Mexican gray wolf SSP program in 1994, and the red wolf SSP program in 2003. Because of the generous support of people like you, there have been ten litters of Mexican wolves and four litters of red wolves born at our sanctuary since we began participating.

During these difficult and uncertain times, it is your steadfast commitment to our organization and to our wolves that keeps our staff and volunteers going strong. You give because you deeply care about a species that continues to be heavily persecuted in the wild and sold as a pet in captivity. Please know that your kindness, compassion and generosity is making a difference, and for that we are eternally grateful.

Thank you again for caring about the health and well-being of not only our rescued gray wolves and wolfdogs, but also for your continued investment in ensuring the survival of the critically endangered Mexican wolf and red wolf.

Please consider Wolf Haven International for your Combined Fund Drive support in 2021.
