OSD Education Foundation Removes Barriers for OSD Students

OSDEF 2015The Olympia School District Education Foundation (OSDEF) provides programs and services to students and partners with teachers to enhance educational success and promote learning for all students of the Olympia School District. OSDEF accomplishes this through three different areas of purpose: providing teacher grants, saving and supporting outdoor environmental education and providing the resources for the Principal’s Emergency Checkbook Fund. Since 1998, the Foundation has awarded over 1.5 million dollars.

OSDEF continues to build upon its successful teacher grants program, which provides funds for educators to try innovative new curriculum, build character in the classroom, encourage creativity and the arts, introduce children to new hands-on experiences and replace aging equipment, among other additional needs. The foundation has responded to further district and community needs by creating multiple programs and events to raise donations.

In 2008, Congressman Denny Heck and his wife, Paula started the Principal’s Emergency Checkbook Fund, along with other outstanding community members affiliated with the OSDEF, providing a resource to administrators to fill emergent basic needs for students in their schools, with minimum amount of paperwork. Giving them a resource to quickly address those needs has proven invaluable. The funds have been used for clothing, medicine, hearing aids, housing, transportation, food, fees for school activities, school supplies, and much more.

The OSDEF Board is a committed group dedicated to every school, every staff member and most importantly, every student in the district. These things can only be realized through generous community support from people like you. Public schools are the cornerstone of our community. To achieve greatness, schools need a supportive community behind them.
