DOC Congratulates the Northwest Region Correctional Worker Core class 1906 graduates!

The Washington State Department of Corrections congratulates the 13 graduates of the Northwest Region Correctional Worker Core class 1906, whose class graduated on June 27, 2019 at the Capt. Jimmie Evans Performance Center in Monroe, Washington.

Correctional Worker Core is an instructional course that introduces new Corrections staff members to the skills and basic work functions needed to work in a correctional setting. It is based on performance standards that are specific to achieving the agency’s mission, including individual, teamwork and organizational competencies. The staff members learn essential skills such as defensive tactics, verbal communication, first aid, how to write effective reports and how to prevent sexual harassment. They also learn about the culture of prisons including details on life while incarcerated, mentally ill inmates, and gangs.
