Feb. 20, Fri., 6‑8:30 p.m.: Food for Oscar Entertaining - Bayview School of Cooking helps to celebrate the Academy Awards telecast the end of February by honoring one of this year's Oscar nominees for Best Film, Slumdog Millionaire,with an authentic menu from India where the movie was produced. Guest Chef Leena Ezekial shares the exotic flavors, spices and culture of her native country.In this class, Cuisine from the Four Corners of India, she prepares the perfect menu to recreate for Oscar night entertaining with:Chicken Makhani (chicken thighs simmered in a butter, cream and tomato sauce); Sarso Bata (tilapia steaks in mustard sauce); Karhi (Chick pea dumplings in yogurt sauce); Cabbage Avial and Indian Chappati Bread. March 4, Wed., 8:00 to Noon; The South Sound Partners for Philanthropy will host the workshop, "E‑Mail Marketing for Non‑Profits" presented by Michael Clark, a marketing expert for Constant Contact of SeattleThe event will take place in the meeting room of Thurston County Community Television located at 440 Yauger Way SW, Olympia. The workshop is designed to provide non‑profits with the tools and knowledge to enhance their visibility and grow their organization through e‑mail marketing and online surveys. The program is designed for individuals who have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university and have three years of professionally oriented work experience in an educational setting. Options are available for candidates to enroll in the certification program only (if they have already earned a master’s degree) or the master’s in education and certification program together. Native Brazilian Fernanda Larson, a new instructor to BSC who has taught throughout Northwest, will introduce Olympia to this flavorful fare in the class The Native Table of Brazil. Brazil's blending of ingredients underscores its reputation for international fusion, adapting many cooking styles/ingredients from other continents. Fernanda serves a typical Brazilian dinner of Pao de Queijo (cheese popovers), Moqueca de Peixe (fish stew in coconut milk, red palm oil and roasted vegetables), Farofa de Dende (toasted tapioca flour in onions), Molho de Pimenta( fresh hot chile sauce) and Crème de Abacate Fresco (fresh avocado cream dessert) $40. The class includes complementary wine pairing and will take place at the Bayview School of Cooking demonstration kitchen on the second floor mezzanine of Bayview Thriftway in downtown Olympia.
